Dominio de las Abejas is a family-owned business founded by Mauricio Ruiz Cantú in 2015. Before developing this project, Mauricio co-founded and served as a winemaker for the Australian wineries Juguette and Somos. He has also worked for wineries in Spain, China, and Mexico. In 2020, he was named one of Australia’s Top 50 Young Wine Producers by the Young Gun of Wine competition.

The vineyard is entirely managed by Ricardo Michel Mata, who has been leading the project since 2018. He holds a Master's degree in Viticulture from the University of Adelaide in South Australia and has worked in New Zealand, with an extensive career in Mexico.

Dominio de las Abejas is located in Ojos Negros, Baja California, Mexico at an elevation of 690 meters. The soil is diverse, ranging from sandy calcareous to thick red clays.

 

The philosophy of Dominio de las Abejas is straightforward: sustainable vineyard practices with organic certification by the CCOF (California Certified Organic Farmers) and minimal intervention winemaking. Wild fermentations, without corrections, and no clarification or fining.
